Haryana School Summer Holidays Announced: Students Get Relief from Heatwave

Schools in Haryana Closed Early Due to Intense Heat; Summer Vacation Till June 30

In a major relief for students and parents, the Haryana government has announced summer vacations for all government and private schools across the state amid rising temperatures and severe heatwave conditions. The summer break will remain in effect from May 25 to June 30, 2026, with schools expected to reopen on July 1, subject to weather conditions and further government review.

The decision was taken as several districts across Haryana witnessed extreme temperatures ranging between 44°C and 46°C. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had also issued heatwave alerts for multiple regions, prompting authorities to prioritize the health and safety of school-going children.

Government Takes Precautionary Step

Summer vacations in Haryana typically begin in early June. However, this year the government decided to close schools earlier than usual due to the prolonged spell of intense heat affecting daily life across the state.

Officials stated that young students are particularly vulnerable to heat-related illnesses such as dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke. With temperatures continuing to rise during daytime hours, the government considered it necessary to suspend regular school operations and provide immediate relief to students.

The order applies to all government, government-aided, and private schools operating within the state.

Parents and Students Welcome the Decision

The announcement has been welcomed by parents and students alike. Many families had expressed concerns about children traveling to and from school during peak afternoon temperatures.

Several districts, including Hisar, Sirsa, Rohtak, Bhiwani, and Jhajjar, recorded exceptionally high temperatures in recent weeks. The intense heat made outdoor activities difficult and increased health risks for students attending classes during the day.

Parents believe that the early closure of schools will help protect children from heat-related health complications and allow them to stay indoors during the hottest period of the year.

Heatwave Conditions Across North India

Haryana is among several North Indian states experiencing unusually high temperatures this summer. Meteorologists have reported that temperatures in many parts of the region have remained significantly above seasonal averages.

According to weather experts, prolonged heatwave conditions can have serious effects on children’s health, especially when they are exposed to direct sunlight for extended periods. The government’s decision to declare vacations early is being viewed as a preventive measure aimed at ensuring student safety.

Focus on Education Reforms Continues

While schools remain closed for the summer break, Haryana continues to focus on improving its education system. The state government has launched several initiatives aimed at enhancing educational quality and infrastructure.

One of the key initiatives is the development of “Chief Minister Excellence and Early English Schools,” under which selected government schools will be upgraded with modern facilities, smart classrooms, digital learning tools, and improved academic resources.

The government has also emphasized teacher training, technology integration, and infrastructure development to create a better learning environment for students across the state.

Schools Expected to Reopen in July

As per the current schedule, schools will remain closed until June 30, 2026. Classes are expected to resume from July 1, provided weather conditions improve and no additional directives are issued by the government.

Education department officials have advised parents to ensure children stay hydrated, avoid unnecessary outdoor activities during peak heat hours, and follow health precautions throughout the summer vacation period.
